A New Leader at New York Theater Ballet and a Call for New Audiences
Karine Bouloumianos-Amiti has a message for the audience of the New York Theater Ballet’s production of the American premiere of her own work, “This Was Not the Plan.” The Broadway production of the ballet, written and choreographed by Bouloumianos-Amiti, will make its world premiere this coming season.
The evening will include an exhibition of photographs by the author, a discussion of her current work and life, and a reception prior to the opening. Bouloumianos-Amiti is a member of the New York Theater Ballet Board of Directors as well as the artistic adviser of the Joffrey Ballet, with whom she has collaborated and given a grant to. Since her first solo work, she has written for and been choreographed for numerous companies under the auspices of the Ballet Theatre, including the Joffrey Ballet, the Seattle Repertory Ballet, the New York City Ballet, and New York City Center. She is currently the artistic director of the Portland Contemporary Theater, and her work has been presented both in the West Coast and in New York. She is currently at work on her fourth full-length work for ballet.
At the podium, Bouloumianos-Amiti will discuss her new work “This Was Not the Plan” and the process of writing and choreographing it.
Bouloumianos-Amiti is a member of the New York Theater Ballet Board of Directors as well as an artistic adviser of the Joffrey Ballet, with whom she has collaborated and given a grant to. She lives in Portland, Oregon.
In addition to the New York Theater Ballet, Bouloumianos-Amiti is a member of the board of the National Ballet of Canada and has served on the advisory boards of the Ballet Theater of Long Beach and the Oregon Ballet Theatre in Portland.
