The Warriors and the Spurs: The Warriors and the Spurs

Editorial: Phew, there wasn’t a red wave. But it’s too soon to exhale, and after last night’s epic, maybe there will be. Here we go:

This is how the game went last night. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, the Warriors became a completely different team from the past two seasons. They may have put on a performance reminiscent of the 2012 Finals and their championship season. But for some reason, we’re not at a Game 7 of such an epic, or historic, nature. Instead, the Warriors took a win, and there may be only one more before the Finals, or until they actually come back and win a championship. It’s a far cry from what they were in 2012.

The same was true of the Spurs. Once again, they were a completely different team from the previous two seasons. They may have had the same type of record and a title, but it wasn’t the same kind of team. Now what is going to happen is: Are the Warriors a different team from the 2012-’13 teams that had a season ending in Game 7? Or the 2003-’04 playoff teams that lost in five games? Or a team that’s ready for the next challenge but still has a long way to go? No one knows. There certainly seems to be no red wave on either side, and it’s time for all four teams to start putting their chips on the table.
